Installing games faster

Thread Starter
Pardon the noob question but I am getting a 2600k but I was wondering something. Would a faster processor help installing things faster? Whenever I install something big like Adobe, or any new game, my computer just...freezes and lags, there is a better term I'd like to call it but I don't think I can say it so I'll just say it, it eats poop during the install.

Would a faster processor help installing things? Or is that the job of the HDD? If so would a SDD and a slave HDD be faster?

A processor would help during the process of decompressing the files but the during the copy of these, the HDD will be the main bottleneck. Of course, if you're installing the game from a DVD, then it will create another bottleneck and therefore, an SSD would only be worth it if you're installing games already on your HDD or SSD.

CPU plays a role in installation speed (unpacking compressed files, etc), but the HDD by far is the most important thing. A dedicated HDD or even a SDD will most likely improve your install speeds noticeably.

If i followed the tutorial in the Hard Drive Section about optimizing an SSD/HDD Combo and say:

I got a 60-120GB SSD and a 1-2TB (I have a 1TB already) 7200 RPM HDD. I put the users folder on the HDD so that all my Downloads and documents go to the HDD, and I just use the SDD for installing programs. Would that help?
