Grind =/= Skill
It just means you can do a monotonous task for long. Maybe, just maybe, we can progress from gaming mechanics established over a decade ago and actually, I dunno, evolve the genre.
You don't seem to grasp what I'm saying. People don't like grinding, because it's monotonous. Therefore, if someone is willing to sacrifice enough time doing something boring, it's deemed more impressive to their peers. If it were something "fun", everyone would do it, and everyone would be at the same level. Maybe you and I don't care about something as selfish as "being the best", but plenty of people do. That's why we have people going for things like "Loremaster" in WoW; not because it's fun, but because it ISN'T. It's difficult and boring, and so not many people would do it.
Again, I'm not saying I like the ideas I'm presenting, but plenty of people do, and it's become one of the major staples of MMO gameplay. And please, don't tell me "but games can progress!", you're preaching to the choir.
EDIT: Not to mention, people don't play MMOs to display "skill", unless we get into ranked PvP. Even the most difficult raids and bosses require very little individual "skill".Edited by Narzon - 5/14/11 at 2:11pm
