I can see why you feel that way, but I'm not so sure I agree. I guess it really depends on how you define, "grind." I think the most common definition I have seen is, "being forced into doing something you find boring to be able to do something you find fun." Something like wow locks you into it (NO GEAR, NO ICC.) but minecraft gives you some pretty easy ways around it. Since it is up to the player to decide where the line between fun and boring is, I'm not so sure I would consider it grindy. If you want to make something amazing, you can use the console commands to get whatever you want. If you want to work for it, you can take months to gather enough diamond to make a pyramid. Or you can do a little of both! Or even use creative mode or whatever to just have unlimited blocks.

There is a very fine line between grind/progression, and the gaming community will continue to argue over it for ever, without a doubt, so I guess it always comes down to the individual. I've spent 100's of hours on my single payer diablo 2 characters for no good reason, and I wouldn't consider that grind. Everyone else I know would call me insane for it.

At it's base, it's still a grind unless you use those tools. My point wasn't to bash the game. I love it. Or at least, I think I do, I may just be addicted. However, that's beside the point. Because a game has a "grind", it doesn't automatically make it bad.

Those tools are all part of the game, its not like they are from a third part or anything.

I love/am addicted to the game too.

Graphics seem acceptable. I could see this as being quite addictive.

My excitement for this game has waned somewhat since they announced it. What's more, is that I think what's at stake here is the future of mmorpgs. A lot of people have been saying that they aren't looking for anyone to reinvent the wheel when it comes to these types of games. I heard that a lot when Rift came out, and I've been hearing it a lot when it comes to MMOs in general. But, here's a thought: Why not reinvent the wheel when it comes to MMOs.

Rift was a refined version of WoW, which in turn was a refined version of EQ and an amalgam of other games in the genre. But man, has this gotten stale or what? The novelty of playing with a ton of other people has worn thin for me, as I'm sure as it has for a lot of other people as well. The level progression is dull. The challenges and rewards are thinly veiled. I want something completely new, and exciting, and different.

I watched about half of this video, and I have to say that I am relatively impressed, but not completely overwhelmed like I was hoping to be. Is that too much to ask? Some might say yes, but I don't think it is. Bioware is a great developer. I would say they are right up there with Blizzard and Valve. They did exactly what they said they were going to do, and exactly what they are good at doing, which is making a game with solid story elements as well as good gameplay. I think that's important, and I think that's a step in the right direction for MMOs, but I'm not quite sure that it's enough.

I can't say what will change the face of online gaming, but I can say that it's not going to be SWTOR by the looks of it, and that's too bad. In my opinion, this is just WoW with a story plus some other additions and refinements. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and I'm sure plenty of people will love it for those reasons, and honestly, I will probably end up grabbing a copy and playing for a while. But at the end of the day I am tired of the conventions that mire these games. It looks like the same tired thing in a new suit. Look too closely, and the illusion will break down.

Exactly what Star Wars needed.

A guy named Trantice with Japanese hair making giant shockwaves with a stick.

Who needs Dark Forces?

Also, why the bloody hell did some random raider have a lightsaber? And then get beaten down by a guy with a stick?

1. Mods this is likely under NDA...not sure the OCN policy here.

2. That...cough...said, I watched it and fully realize we are only seeing his settings which are good for video recording, and damn long at that. No grouping was done, so it showed very little of the game...actually what you would expect during nooby levels.

This was so limited, and it showed nothing of Massive Multiplayer....I cannot remember seeing any other players as I skipped around the video.

From what I have seen demo'ed elsewhere on the oficial site, it looks to be very interesting.
