60fps is often held as the standard on this forum, but how much of a difference is there between 60fps, 50fps & 40 fps. can we see the difference, considering i've heard that the eye can tracks at a maximum 30 fps
post #2 of 35
Basically, there is a noticeable difference that can be felt between 30 and 60. However, if you drop below 30 FPS then you REALLY notice.

Nobody does :< they just like seeing big numbers for "epeen", they'll tell themselves they can see a difference imo lol, im perfectly happy with anough frames for 0 stuttering and smooth play.

Give them no fps meter, and the same game with 35 and 60+ fps and i'll bet you anything they won't tell the difference.

60FPS is crap.

People who say there is no difference between 30 and 60FPS are gullible misinformed ones.

My display goes up to 170 true Hz. And there are games where I get enough FPS to utilize that properly. Even that is not the smoothest I can imagine.

Basically:

30FPS smooth, only if you use motion blur. Otherwise horribly laggy
60FPS somewhat smooth without motion blur
120FPS very smooth without motion blur
170FPS dear mother of god that is smooth, but I can still imagine it being smoother.

I would never be satisfied with 60FPS for fast paced games again.

EDIT: I'm not "telling myself" anything. Although my display does 170hz, I don't do it. Why? Because I need to lower the resolution too much. I am fine at 1600x1200 @ 110hz. I'm not trying to defend anything.

If you REALLY don't see how 60FPS seems laggy, I am terribly sorry for you. Your eyes must suck hardcore. Try it yourself. Two computers side by side, doing 30FPS and 60FPS in two easy to run games like half life 2. Limit the other one to 30, and the other to 60. You will see the difference. Until you do this, you have no basis to comment.

See this link people, this proves to you that 60FPS is visible http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...www.google.com

40+ is fine for most, aside from stuff like CS/CoD/Racing games.

How much do you bet that I wouldn't tell a difference between 35fps and 60fps?

With a monitor capable 120hz, it will allow 120 FPS to be displayed.
Most mainstream monitor are 60hz, which is why 60 FPS seems to be the golden number. I presume.

I can clearly see a difference between 30 and 60 FPS in most games. However, if it shows FPS over 50, I hardly see any difference compared to 60.

It's all personal preference for the most part.
