2500K stock temps seem high

Thread Starter
I just put together a 2500k system with a stock cooler.

Running Prime95 I get max temps of 84C in RealTemp. The case is open and ambient temp is 20C.

SpeedFan shows the CPU fan at 2027RPM and CPU-Z shows a core voltage of 1.336V (Vdroop is on).

Is this really all I can expect from the stock cooler or should I suspect something is wrong? I heard they were better than this. The cooler on my E5200 was awesome giving me 70C temps w/ a 50% overclock.

for a stock cooler that sounds about right.

I had heard people can overclock to 4.4GHz on the stock cooler. With 84C at 3.7GHz I don't see how this is possible.

Could my fan be running too slow? What should the max fan speed of the stock cooler be? I guess I could also try reseating the cooler. I don't have any paste though. Is it okay to reseat it with the same paste?

No don't reseat with the same paste, you will need new one. Temp is bit high i think although i've never used stock cooler so i'm not sure. My ambient is 30C and im idle at 32C across the cores, and load is at 62C with my H70. I don't think there would be that big of a difference. Something is not right with your temps,

All cpu's are different my friend, ambient temps can play a huge part in determining temps. Please fill in your system spec.

overclocking to a certain clock speed is different than torture testing with that clock speed. You can OC to something, get lucky and have it appear stable without ever running Prime 95

Ambient temp is 20C as given above. What else would you like to know?

I understand but I'm trying to find out what I should expect from the stock cooler stressed at stock speeds. I would think if there is a general impression that OC on the stock cooler is possible then i should see lower than 85C stock under stress.
