A 5400 RPM HDD is absolutely sufficent for WoW. You do not need a 7200 RPM at all. Loading time doesn't affect gameplay.

You won't find any new laptops that can play wow with 30FPS Regardless of graphic settings for 400 dollars period. But perhaps a used computer?_

something with a dual-core processor will do, the Old Asus G50-G60's laptops are great and you can find them for 500+ on craiglist

5400 laptop is not nearly the same as a 5400 desktop, having played wow extensively on laptops and desktops I can tell you that anything less than 7200 rpm on a laptop on Cataclysm is going to crawl

maybe vanilla wow, but because of the added demands of flying in home cities, the game is way more prone to lock ups and 30 second loading screens.

sorry if this is misleading, but that is decreased gameplay imho

if you can find an inexpensive toshiba satellite, they can make decent wow machines

most of them have 7200 rpm hdd, dedicated graphics, and backlit keyboards. they are a bit less expensive than other major brands too

That laptop has an integrated 4250. I would consider that to be relatively useless for video games. It's a little faster than the intel GMA I have in my laptop, which can do SC2 at about 8-10FPS on a good day with all the settings all the way down. A similar laptop with the nvidia 320M in it can actually hold it's own.

My laptop has a 5400 RPM drive and I've never experienced any of your "claims". 30 second loading screen? So what? That does not affect gameplay. Worth mentioning that I've never seen a 30 second loading screen one time, that only happened when I started the game and it loads a city full of people. Even happened on my desktop with its 7200 RPM drive : ) Probably game being buggy and nothing to do with the drive.

I will prove you wrong tomorrow.

a city full of people is what we have been talking about all along... which is the core of gameplay in cateclysm. everything happens in Org (or SW or IF for alliance)

do you have all the other low end components that would contribute to the bottlenecking? it is a systematic issue, the 5400 rpm coupled with other low end components equals bad gameplay experience.

perhaps the european servers are lighter on peeps? U.S. get bogged down heavily.

No, you're just talking crap. If you have bunch of low end components, that contributes with a bad experience. How exactly is the HDD to blame? The first load is always the slowest, after that it goes fast. No idea where the HDD comes into place in this mess. All it does is loading, which does not affect gameplay and won't be even close to 30 seconds.

FYI, nothing happens in Org/SW. All you do is waiting for your queues to pop. Outside of that all you do is standing AFK.

if you say nothing happens in Org, I now know that you know very little about WoW or have not played competetively in a very long time. WoW is the most hard drive dependent game there is for PC.

In WoW, all of your char settings/addons/insanely huge patches are run from your HDD (over 25 gigs and counting)... if you dont think the speed of your hdd makes a difference, you are fooling yourself. In wow, player traffic = decreased performance. There is no greater traffic (on a horde server) than in org.
