Worth picking this i7 975 up?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

Not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, so I apologize if I'm in the wrong.
A guy on craigslist is selling an i7 975 for $300.00. He's about a 40 mile drive away from me.
Do you guys think it's worth picking up? Or should I save my cash for LGA 2011?

Do you still think it's not worth it? I've got the upgrade itch!

On a side note, what is this guy thinking?

He claims he games on it at 4.14GHz at 1.30 Vcore. Awaiting CPU-Z confirmation now.
Anyone think I should go for it?
I'd say no, just save your money. The i7 975 is still only a quad core. If you want a lot more performance NOW, then switch to sandy bridge with a 2500k/2600k and OC that to 4.5-5GHz. You can get the 2500k with motherboard for not much more than $300.

Save up for Ivy Bridge. The only 1366 cpu worth upgrading to now are the 6 cores, 970x and 980x and even that is debatable. Oh course everything varies depending on their price. I just got a i7 950 for $125 last week but I'm still debating if it was worth it.

Save it. And an i7 960, GTX 560 and no SSD DO NOT make the "Ultimate Gaming Machine" $4750 would buy a kick-butt SR-2 rig, or two or three SB rigs, each with more potential. Wait for 2011.
