Ran Memtest86 - Now Windows Will Not Start

Thread Starter
Can anyone please help me? I ran Memtest86 (newest version 4.0) and now my computer will not get past the initial Windows start screen.

Prior to running the test everything was A-ok. I ran the test to see what info would come out and the test showed that all three of my modules had problems. As you can see I'm running 3x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 memory on a Rampage Extreme III MOBO.

I have pulled all the modules out and tested each one individually using 4.o and each failed at Test #7.

I then ran the test using an earlier version of Memtest (3.50 I believe) and all three modules passed without issue.

I have reset the bios to the defaults and everything is on Auto, the same configuration I had prior to the test that ran smoothly.

I'm no wizard about this stuff and am totally stuck, my computer will not boot past the Windows logo.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Dave

try "memtest86+" not the old one. The newer version is compatible with more rams.

I'm beyond caring about the memtest part of this, I can no longer access my computer and it's driving me crazy.

I can access the bios settings, use 'windows repair', but then nothing will happen, it will just get stuck on the opening 'Windows Logo'... I'm trying everything and nothing is working.

As far as the speed, everything was reset to the original factory settings through the bios... CPU at 3.20 - factory stock...

Any ideas are welcomed.

Thx.

You didn't happen to change boot device location did you, by accident?

I inadvertently changed boot location to a USB drive and it was trying to boot from either my mouse or keyboard. I went nuts trying to figure out why it wasn't working. Probably not the case here.

Try resetting CMOS.

No the windows boot disk is the same one it has always been... I had this same problem a few days ago when I tried to overclock the Ram a little bit. I fiddled around for several hours until I finally did something that worked but I don't know what I did so I cannot repeat the process... arrrgh! lol

The computer was working fine for several days until I ran Memtest86 and I'm not sure what happened but it through the system for a loop. I think I may have faulty RAM, although I'm not sure if that would negate booting Windows? Any thoughts on that?

Thx

Have you pulled out your memory and swapped it around to different slots?

So much for my reading comprehension. Guess its that time of the day...

I reset the CMOS...no change. thx for thr suggestion though.

I am trying to boot from a Window 7 installation DVD. It will recognize the drive, load in a bunch of files from the DVD, but then it gets hung up at the Windows logo and nothing happens. I even leave it alone for 20 minutes to see if something will change but it's just stuck... weird....
