Safe voltage for 5830

Thread Starter
Hi, I was wondering what the safe max voltage of a 5830 is. I have done some stress testing, and I am pretty sure it is stable at 1Ghz at the stock voltage, however I was wondering how much more I could get out of the chip. I will be running at the 1000Mhz 24/7 but I want to run a 3d mark 11 run at higher to try and get the highest score. I see that the voltage is 1.063 in RBE so, how high can I overvolt it.
Thanks for your help.
P.S. Do fans ever have a burn in time, like get quieter after some use?

Max volts on the 58xx cards are ~1.25v with good cooling be sure you have RAM/VRM heatsink as well to avoid overheating and/or burning up any components. Keep core temps below 80c to avoid any potential damage or longevity issues. Keep VDDC temps under ~100 you should be ok. after about 110c they start to implement safety measures by lowering clocks and voltages, which causes crashes, instabilities etc.

Have you tried MSI Afterburner might get you further great program.

Fans do not have a burn in time AFAIK but if you run them 100% 24/7 they will not last as long. Setting fan to around 70-805 should be all that's needed to keep it cool. Above that speed you might see 1-3c lower temps but will kill fan a bit faster. Nothing that you will see for quite some time as long as you aren't gonna run it 100% 24/7.

OK, it is good to know what the safe voltage is on the 58xx cards is. I am already using afterburner(how else could I go to 1000Mhz on a 5830). I have been keeping my fan speeds at 50 as anything over that is louder than my case fans. I get temps of 63-64 using 50% fan speed and at 1Ghz, so I was thinking I may be able to acheive some more Mhz from this bad boy.
It stays pretty darn cool because AMD never put out a real refernce design for it so XFX just made the PCB for it and slapped it in esentialy a refernce 5870 cooler. It has great cooling for what it is so I have no problems with it. I have stress tested it and played with it at 1Ghz so I am ready to go higher.

that is an awesome overclock. Is this the same card TigerDirect had on sale? I bought two, and I would love to be able to get to 1000mhz 24/7

edit: btw what temps are you getting? and what are you running the fan on?

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/review...-the-card.html

this seems to be the card we got. And it seems to have 5 heatsink pipes

Yes, this was the tigerdirect sale. It is also the same cad you showed me. I didn't spend any time working on overclocking just set it at 900 with afterburner and waited an hour to see if it crashed while doing a subject that can't be talked about here, and then went to 950 for about a half hour, and then right to 1000. No crash after I would say a full 6 hours at load.
My temps are 63C with memory at stock and 62C with the mem. downclocked to 560..(don't ask why my memory is downclocked figure it out) All this with the fan at 50%(although afterburner seems bugged because you have to set it higher than 50% and then down to it.
