Lol just google'd it. Maybe the disc drive is bad? Hopefully not but MS has been really good with the 360 warranty.

hopefully not is right! I just bought the thing a week ago. haha

It just seems to happen with that one game, so it might just be the disc.

Have you checked the edges of the disc? Those can be the worst and not always that visible.

Did the same thing too last week OP! Been happy with my PC and PS3 for a long time now and finally picked up a slim 360 4gb last week (had a 360 years ago but got rid of it). Really like it now, especially compared to the first one I had.

Looking to pick up GoW2 sometime soon, picked up Alan Wake (only $10 for d/l version), so far a pretty interesting game for the money (hate the facial animations though lol). Really been enjoying the ESPN features too.

It's because dual layer discs are more sensitive. Chances are a DVD movie isn't on a dual layer disc like games are, so the laser won't have to be as precise when reading the disc. That's what I was told, and it makes sense honestly. If I'm not mistaken dual layer discs have thinner foil layers or whatever it's called than your standard 4.7 GB DVD. It's not your xbox, it's the disc. No xbox will read my copy of Unreal Tournament III even though they aren't deep scratches, just minor blemishes.
Retribution.

Yeah I really like mine too. Dropped in a 250gb hard drive just the other day so tons of space for all my junk. I'm playing alan wake right now. Awesome game. Great graphics. I picked up GOW1 also. I played that originally on the PC and wanted to play it again. I played GOW2 on a buddies 360 but I still like the original better.

Yeah, I'm not sure what he's talking about... Pretty sure you can only use:

- WD Scorpio Series BEVS/BEAS
- WD Scorpio Blue Series BEVS/BEVT/BPVT
- WD Scorpio Black Series BEKT/BJKT
- WD VelociRaptor Series
- WD AV-25 Series BUDT

Unless of course HDDHackr works with more now.

I love the controller! I love the interface! Makes me want to avoid having to use the DS3 and XMB. But after trying to play a used Gears I fell victim to the many hardware issues that have plaqued the 360. It wouldn't read the disc.

Never had issues like that with the PS3. It just worked.

But still I love my new 360! And I can't wait for Gears 3!!!
Since you are new to the 360, just a heads up -- get use to the failures and errors.

Sounds like somebody is in the wrong section... I have had 1 RRoD console and the process was extremely simple to get a free replacement. Other than that, the only thing you have to deal with (under normal circumstances) would be the occasional 'dirty disc' message which is fixed 99.99% of the time by cleaning it/blowing on the tray.

It's interesting that you say that though considering how tedious and annoying gaming on PC often is in regard to hardware and software maintenance, configuring, and network setting issues (for connecting to others); I'd venture to guess you have some type of issue with consoles in general.
