Is it safe to delete...

post #1 of 16
Thread Starter
Is it safe to delete .../AppData/Local/Temp/pk/dt? I noticed I had very little space left on my 1TB hard drive, yet I had barley any files, very few applications, and in general, a pretty empty computer, yet I had somehow used up 800GB! I had cleaned out everything unnecessary, including all of my large ISO files, and a bunch of programs, and only got it down to 700GB. I then decided to see what the hell was going on so I got WinDirStat, and to my shock, I found that in the folder mentioned about, there where 1.7 Million + files that took up a whooping 560+ GB! Is it safe to delete what's in that folder? what is it? There is no way there should be that much **** in that folder.

Type this in search bar.
* cleanmgr

Check all the boxes and that should help with the space.

You can also type this in search bar
* %temp%

And delete everything in there also. If the above happens to leave anything. There maybe a couple of files that will not delete, ignore them.

check whats inside of the folder before you even think about sending it to that trash !

I regularly delete everything in the .../AppData/Local/Temp folder. All files in that folder are save to delete. If Windows says something is in use when you try to delete it, just skip it.

Doing that right now, and it says it can free up over 1.63TB of space, I only have a 1TB HHD...

Something else is wrong then. As there is no way possible to delete more space the you physically have on your hard drive though. Can you run a chkdsk on the drive and let it run when you reboot and see what it finds?

Right click the drive, select properties. Tools tab and select error checking. Check start now and select automatically fix errors. Click start and it should ask would you like to run it when you reboot, select yes.
