The one thing that will give the biggest experienced performance increase for regular PC use is SSD's.

There was a lot of discussions if there's any point going to SB from i7. Most did agree that it won't have that much of performance increase (if at all) to justify going for that upgrade. Most of them where called trolls back then... and i would bet on that most of them are just waiting for i7 successor instead of jumping on i3 successor
It's not bad or anything like that, less power consumed some apps would work faster.
I'll just wait few generations of CPU's or jump on IB maybe, if will feel need of more power for games.

Using SSD only for WoW, and regretting the purchase overall. It's cool in first 2 days, but i don't play "restart my computer every 10min" game to benefit from it.

i went from an i5 750 at 4.2ghz to i7 2600k at 5ghz, this was not noticeable in CPU performance in the games I play. however going from the 5970 to 6990 WAS a noticeable upgrade. Spend the money on gpus and ssd's.

Here is the thread http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...o-pro-323.html

As you can see, my secondary system has a lower performing CPU setup and a much worse performing video card VS KingT's system, but because it's using an SSD it beats his system. Even if he has better components and are using two harddrives in Raid 0.

PCMark 7 are showing real world performance... Running stuff we use for a daily basis..

UMM ?/ I believe he had a 1366/I7 = going to I5 /1155 is possibly a downgrade if anything!! (imo) 2500k is only Clocked slightly faster no hyperthreading !!!

I know he had a i7 1366 and went Sandy. But my post was only to show the power of using an SSD.

I have found Sb 2600K upgrade to be very capable and a nice bump over my i950 set up.

I have no problem recommending a 2600K set up over the X58 quads .... the 6 cores are a different story but never had the cash ti try one out ...

LGA 2011 will be upon us soon ... as well as Buldozer so I am excited to see what next gen platforms bring to the table ...

For now though, I feel SB is the best quad core on the streets
