Yes a boot cd is a great idea for Virut. Only problem is the time when you realized your infected all your operating systems files and so on are planted with a believed to be bug by its creator where it overwrites part of the data in the file. So there's no disinfection. Straight delete. Which means you sit with two options. Reinstall or repair and sit with a lot of damage applications and data which will take reinstaling aswell.

And virut doesn't take 10 min to clean.

AVG wrote: There are bugs in the viral code. When the virus produces infected files, it also creates non-functional files that also contain the virus ...Due to the damaged caused to files by virut it's possible to find repaired but corrupted files. They became corrupted by the incorrect writing of the viral code during the process of infection. undetected, corrupted files (possibly still containing part of the viral code) can also be found. this is caused by incorrectly written and non-function viral code present in these files.

From the blog
Either way you can end up with a computersystem so badly damaged that recovery is not possible and it cannot be repaired . When that happens there is nothing you can do besides reformatting and reinstalling the OS.

Why the hell do people use norton, mcaffee, avast etc..
I find microsoft security essentials to be very good and efficient.

Because Norton and Avast are very good and efficient... (Norton since 2010 at least).

I have used Avast for years and never had a single issue. Why fix what's not broken.
