Decent headphones for around 60 bucks? - Page 3

HD555 have plenty of bass, specially by open back headphone standards. If you want strong, pounding bass, you probably need closed back headphones or at least supra aural headphone. The bass of HD555s is fairly articulate, especially with the foam mod. I am guessing, that their bass response is decent down to about 70Hz and it then starts rolling off, so the deep bass is less defined. That covers plenty of music types IMO. Overall, they're plenty enjoyable headphones all around headphones, specially after a break in perilous. Yes, perhaps hip hop and rap will not play bass at dance club volume levels.

Considering that I am noticing that the web prices of HD280 and HD555 are about the same, I'd get the HD555s. For under $100, it's a heck of a deal and probably will not last forever because they're being replaced by more expensive HD558s. In gaming, open back headphones are better for accurate sound positioning IMO. However, closed back HD280s are expect to have better bass, and their sound will be less audible to someone in the same room with you.

Gaming cans for around $60, get the Samson SR850.
I have the AD700 and my kids have SR850s and they sound very good for the price. The highs are a bit brighter than the AD700, but other than that they sound real good. Clear mids and good bass.
