2500k Overclocks

Thread Starter
I recently purchased another 2500k from NE and decided the other day to build a nice SB system around it. I finally put everything together last night and started OC'ing this nice little chip this morning. It's by far the best 2500k I've owned and the easiest to overclock, right now at least

System Specs:

- Intel i5-2500k
- Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4 (B3 / F3D BIOS)
- ADATA Gamer DDR3 1600 (CL6 Ripjaws in route)
- MSI HD 6950 (Unlocked Shaders)
- Patriot Inferno 120GB SSD

Cooling:

- HWLabs Black Ice GTS 240
- HWLabs Black Ice SR1 120
- EK Supreme HF
- XSPC 750 H2O
- 1/2"ID Tubing

Results:

First attempt / 4.5GHz @ 1.3v. Perfectly stable and cool with loaded temps under 40C. My other 2500k setup requires 1.35v to reach these speeds.

Second Attempt / 4.8GHz @ 1.4v. System boots and runs games / benchmarks at 1.35v, but will BSOD after about 30min to one hour of gaming. It takes 1.4v to make it perfectly stable and runs like a champ with loaded temps under 45C.

Third Attempt / 5.0GHz @ 1.45v. Once again, the system will boot and run 85% stable at 1.4v, but 1.45v makes it 100% stable with temps right at or just under 50C. I played BFBC3 for about 3.5HRS straight tonight without any hiccups and ran loops of 3DMark11 and Prime95 blends to ensure it was okay.

I haven't had a chance to play any further, but I'm thinking 5.2GHz or higher is possible with this chip. My other 2500k tops out at 4.7GHz, regardless of the voltage so I'm pleased with this one. I'm going to add my other HD 6950 to the system tomorrow and replace the ADATA 1600MHz CL9 with GSKill 1600MHz CL6 on Monday so it should be a good day of benching and gaming

Thanks and I'll keep this thread updated with my results as I reach higher.

I'm liking those speeds. great news! incredible how well it OCs at such low temps, even with that cooling

I have to admit that I'm quite jealous.

My chip will not do 4.5GHz without 1.36v. Garbage little bugger .

I'm a bit surprised too. I've never used HWLabs radiators but I'm quickly becoming sold on them. This is a CPU only H2O loop and I think that helps a little, I just don't want to water-cool the video cards because I swap them in and out so often I don't want the hassle. It's also nice having a lot of heat capacity

4.5GHz is still screaming fast. I'm thinking about dropping mine down to 4.5Ghz at 1.3v just because the temps stay a little lower and I don't notice the extra 300MHz while gaming. It's cool to say my chip is running at 5GHz, but 4.5GHz will suffice

Your chip is identical to mine. Mine was also doing 5 ghz @ 1.45v but I backed it down as it gets quite loud on my air cooler =P

You have a great chip there, but I would be weary of running over 1.45v for 24/7 use.

Not sure if you have tried yet, but lowering CPU PLL to 1.7v to 1.72 has been known to lower vcore needed for stability in some cases!

Cheers

The voltage isn't earth-shatteringly impressive, but those temps certainly are .

Makes me want to put mine under water
