AMD Radeon HD6950 to HD6970 mod?

Thread Starter
Hi. I recently read an article about unlocking the AMD Radeon HD 6950 using a HD 6970 BIOS. The whole process seems fairly straight forward, and would like to do it, however I don't know if I have a strong enough power supply to do it safely.

These are my specs.

Intel Core i7 2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4Ghz/3.8Ghz turbo core x 4 Quad Core LGA 1155 8MB Cache

B3 Revision Intel H67 Motherboard,

8GB DDR3 1333 RAM

Seagate 1TB SATA3 7200 RPM

ATI HD 6950 2GB GDDR5,

Acbel Black 510W ( 560W Max ) 12cm cooling fan Power supply

Also, any tips on unlocking the card (as I am new to pc and have never done anything like this before) will be MUCH appreciated.

First of all, welcome to OCN.

A quality 500w would do the job, although...acbel? IDK if they make good units, all I know about them is they were/are OEM for brands like Cooler Master.

I'd suggest looking for a good review of this unit first (I couldn't find one), then judge from that review if you should or shouldn't buy a better PSU.

Personally, I suggest you buy a better power supply first.

Good luck unlocking the card.

Follow this and you should be set.

Mine unlocked like a charm with it.
