onboard sound dead? - Page 2

Right click on the sound icon, click on playback devices and make sure it is set to output to your speakers and not another device.

Hey guys, I have an update, maybe this will confirm if my onboard sound is dead, or that it can be fixed, heres a screen shot:

As you can see, my computer started to detect a speakers. I was not doing anything besides surfing the internet, as you can see, and I quickly took a screen shot. It was going in, and out, in, and finally out again and it didn't come back.

Deffinitly hardware failure? or is something just loose in my computer, or is something cause the onboard to short out?

Sorry the screen shot is so small, maybe you can zoom somehow..

Edit: What if I use HDMI on my GPU, would that work to get sound?

nvidia gpu's should have a spdif connector on them

little one of the left here

then use a spdif cable to go to the connector on your mobo

most ati gpu's have sound cards on them for hdmi audio

There are few things that you should know.

1.If the onboard sound has died for real the motherboard may develop other issues.Keep an eye on the integrated LAN.

2.This integrated stuff like sound and LAN die faster when the power supply is crap. And yours is a ... Resewill.

3.Onboard sound on Asus and MSI mobos tends to die/fail fast ,thats the way they make them ,maybe the power filtering for the sound IC is cheap.

4.Thats why you have to have a decent dedicated sound card always.

Reset BIOS ,disable overclocking and reinstall Windows.

If the sound is dead RMA the mobo , don t waste the time and get a new PSU as well.

Well the only thing I can think of is that I just recently installed nvidia drivers for a 8600 gs, and I noticed how if you do a custom install, it shows you all the checkboxes and it has one checked for nvidia hd audio drivers. Even though there is no nvidia audio anything in that computer.
