I highly doubt that whistle.gif Definitely buy the MSI Lightning or Gigabyte GTX 580 SOC.

Well we'll have to wait for actual owners to start posting their results and that's your opinion which your entitled to.

Sadly, this is incorrect.

Per Jacob over on the EVGA forums:

So it is a GTX580SC with a different cooling option. My guess is it was made for those that do not like the sound the external exhaust reference cards make under load, but do not want to water cool.

While not as exciting as a non-reference card, it is always nice to have options.
oh!
I thought it to be a non-reference card, but if this is the case the I would consider msi gtx580 lightning to be the best, evga gtx580 ds superclocked 2nd best & asus gtx580 direct cuII 3rd best

If you are going to be buying direct from EVGA, at the prices they are charging, you may as well save a little extra and buy the GTX 580 3GB card instead, as the price difference is not much more:

http://www.evga.com/products/moreInf...s%20Family&sw=

The stock reference cooler has the vapor chamber and has performed admirably. With a few tweaks of the fan profile in MSI Afterburner, my overclock of 900/1800/2100 is kept at 78C max, when benchmarking, for my top card. The bottom card sees around 76C max with the same fan profile.

Also, even though, the concerns were answered above, here is the thread on the EVGA forum for reference on the DS model:

Just saw a review that msi is launching
msi gtx580 lightning extreme edition 3gb,
so again msi is gowing to have the crown & that 3gb card will be better than all the gtx580's mentioned in the poll,
now I have started considering msi to be the best non-reference gpu maker,
well done msi!!

Any of these cards with aftermarket coolers will do very well in a single card configuration.

However, if watercooling and/or multi-GPU setups are going to be in order, where multiple cards are going to be sandwiched together, then reference cards will be the better choices as they won't be starved for air, and they will have the broadest offerings for waterblocks.

"Best" is really a subjective matter.
