Thermocouple Placement help...

Thread Starter
So here I am getting 'serious' about heat management on a rig beyond buying a CPU cooler. I buy an H70, Lian Li A77, and a Lamptron FC-5V2 and upon installation of the FC-5V2 run into a minor problem...4 Thermocouples. "Great," I say, "I can see the temps around my motherboard and case". Minor issue...where do I place them using what method to secure them?

You see lovely instructions on managing the pcb on the back of the FC-5V2, not so hot re: thermocouple placement.

Yeah, I figure the north bridge and south bridge would be ideal locals for two of the thermocouples. Memory for the third, but the forth?

Also, how should I secure them? Obviously I need a medium that's not permanent nor changes with heating and cooling cycles.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this topic.

On a side note:

Can anyone recommend some kick'n fans? My PC office has a south facing window and I live in Florida so afternoon temps in the room are a tad warm.

I do have a set for 38mm Syths for the H70.

Before anyone says Watercooling...it ain't happen'n...I'm a quad...no finger dexterity, therefore no tool manipulation beyond a screwdriver.

Thanks ahead of time for any and all advice.

Where
I suggest 2 places:-
a) on the underside of the cold plate of the H70. See pic 1 below.
Obviously you have to remove the cold plate and this is inconvenience.

b) on the backplate of your motherboard. See pic 2 below.
And you need to remove your motherboard to access this location.

How
Your Lamptron should have come with yellowish transparent tape for you to stick the sensor onto a surface.
If not, use Kapton tape. See pic 3.
Or, Taraoka tape. See pic 4 and 5 for application example.

Thank you for the excellent advice. I'll search around for the tape you mentioned as well as follow the instructions for thermocouple placement. I'll likely use the backplate method as to be honest, I'd rather not attach to the coldplate itself.
