Asus sabertooth cpu and ram post led RED

Thread Starter
After installing my new watercooling system i put everything back together. And try to boot, what happened was my front panel was smoking!!!!! i immediately cut of the power, what hapenned was some wires on the front panel burnt/melted ***?!

so i checked the cables double checked and even triple checked everything but everything was fine?!

so i tried again without the front panel (hard boot with the screw driver thing) now my cpu and ram leds are both burning red? though all my fans work, and my pump is working also.

but the wierd things is my keyboard has no power?

What i did :

checked the cpu for damage. Its fine
Checked pins Fine also
Cleared cmos 10x did not work
Removed battery did not work
Removed all the ram, ram light is still burning???
tried 1 stick no luck
Checked all my psu cables for damage, did not find anything. BUT my 24 pin motherboard connector only has 23? is that normal?
My Ati fan runs at 100% as soon as i boot up?

So i really dont know that to do anymore, and i'm about to RMA the board.

Any suggestions?!frown.gif

I'm pretty sure that the missing power connector is what's doing it. I suggest RMA'ing the board, It's an obvious defect. I assume it's causing a short which would definitely cause the wires to super heat themselves. Bad luck, it's uncommon but it happens sad-smiley-002.gif

Only thing I can think of doing is finding another mobo to test it with, but that would be a hassle. I was thinking maybe it is missing pin #20, which is an optional power connector, but I have only heard of psu's not having it, not mobos. But I am positive now that it is a problem with the board because the specifications for the board state that it should have a 24 pin power connector.

Also, green power light on mobo would be lit up because the power used to light the light up runs through one of the other pins.

I meant my psu not my mobo. i just reseated the cpu,and changed thermal paste. I also removed all my ram, now my pc beeps continuously. ram/cpu leds are on. BUT i think its my powersupply. i had some problems with it months ago ( with the 24 and 8 pin)

I THINK the 8 pin connector for the motherboard is fubar not the motherboard itself. Thats why the leds are on because the cpu aint getting any juice. And because the cpu is related to the mem, the mem light will light up 2. i also think my psu is overvolting or atleast having insane peaks, because it basically fried my front panel. ughhh headache

How can i test the 8 pin power connector without a spare motherboard?

thanks

EDIT : Nevermind the continuous beep

And you haven't changed any of your parts between it working and it not working other than watercooling equipment? If so, I really have no idea. Sorry frown.gif

If you can, and if it's not a hassle seeing as how your going to need to take it out of the mobo anyway. I don't see the downside :/

Yeah, but deep down inside i still think its the psu. Cause if i remove the cpu /ram/vga MB does beep. I'm going to test the psu with a multimeter tonight. I want to be 200% sure before i rma anything. Because my atx 24 pin connector only has 23 (the psu). i also think my psu has insane peaks, and that fried my front panel. And sometimes fans just stop or spin very slow. Mb atx connectors are fine though. I'll let you guys know as soon as i find the problem. It may be helpfull for other people experiencing the same issues.

Good Idea, I was a little confused at first, because I thought you meant that the mobo had a missing pin on the 24pin connector. Anyway, good idea. Lemme know how it goes.
