Processor Bottleneck for crossfired 6950's? - Page 2

How much would the "bottleneck" hold back performance?
It's rather difficult to quantify a bottleneck, especially with a stock PHII 940 and XFire 6950's at Eyefinity.

As long as your minimum fps doesn't go below 30 which I doubt with that setup, you'll be fine. Even if you did, that means you can take on as much AA/AF and other goodies you want.

The bottleneck will just score you much lower on benchmarks then other users with 6950 cf. But if you are doing eyefinity buy 60hz screens, don't expect 120 fps on 3 monitors.

bottleneck won't be noticeable if you play less cpu intensive games like crysis and such. BFBC2 and GTA 4 will render the cpu bottlenecking.

You could keep this CPU, but I would definitely OC it 4.0Ghz. Invest 50-60 in a good CPU cooler. The cooler master 212 should do the trick.

Or you could upgrade to something like a 955, 965, or something from the X6 series. But any AMD cpu you get you should probably OC it, they are very OC friendly, especially the black edition ones.
You can't overclock that chip to 4GHz. It's a C2 stepping chip. Getting past 3.6GHz is a feat for most on air and 4GHz is a feat for people on LN2. XD

I would know since I owned three or four. Great for the price though. $90 for a Phenom II quad that does 3.6 like nothing.

For a CPU upgrade, I would go for Sandy Bridge. No reason to do anything else. Not to mention, overclocking is just as easy on those chips as it is for the Phenom II line. Just up the voltage and up the multi.
