Can I do this?

In the next week or so I will be moving from 1156 on a Gigabyte board to 1155 on an Asus Z68 board. I have heard it is possible to take a system image of 1156 and use it on 1155.

1)If this is true does it matter if the brand of the new board is different from the old board ? Driver issues come to mind. Any way around that?

2) If the above is not feasible is there any way that I can avoid installing all of my daily apps again on the new board...get them on the new rig intact?.

I know that a fresh install for everything is the recommended way, and I don't really mind for the OS....but all of my other apps take a long time to install and configure just the way I like them. So, I am hoping for a viable short cut...........Thanks--dennyb

Oh , if registry work is required ....that is beyond my pay grade

Yes it should work. I'm using the same OS image and I've gone from X58 to P45 to P55 and now P67 without formatting and installing again.

Great. What did you do about mobo drivers...uninstall the old ones after getting the old image on the new rig? Then install the new mobo drivers? Any tips are appreciated

edit: I should make it clear that the drive with this OS is going to be sold with this rig....so I will be putting the image on a new drive. Will I need a new key after the transfer?
