Best CPU cooler for thermaltake v3 black edition?

This is my case. My mobo is an asus P6X58D-E.

I've done some research and found out many sources rate an Noctua NH-D14 as the best cooler. I'm interested in buying one online.

However, I'm not sure if it would fit into my case, as it's quite big. My RAM has quite large heatsinks on top so that could also get in the way.

Anyone know if the Noctua NH-D14 would fit into my v3 case?

The NH-D14 is 160mm in height. According to the product page, the maximum cooler height for the v3 is 137mm. I'm sure that's with the side panel fan though, so it should fit if you don't have a side intake fan.

As for the RAM, the cooler gives you about 44mm height clearance for RAM. However, you can move that outer fan up a little to allow you more room, which might give you clearance. Measure the height of your RAM to get an idea. Here's a diagram of the D14 with various measurements:

Edit: Here is a person who has the same Patriot RAM and going by his sig rig, it apparently fits.

Also, ehume just posted a pic of his D14 showing comparability with Ripjaws which also have tall heat sinks.

If the Noctua is the same height as the Silver Arrow, you might have problems closing the side panel. Your case specs is 7.5" Wide and mine is 7.48" and I cannot close my side panel. Depends on the motherboard tray I'd guess, but it's cutting it close I'd say.

I have tall RAM too, took the heatsinks off. I would advise against it and get low profile if you can first, it's just a last resort. wink.gif

Thanks man.

I'm thinking about just getting a hyper 212 plus with an additional fan. I've been told they fit inside v3s and are rated quite well.
