Case Recommendation: 800D vs HAF X

Thread Starter
I've been lurking these forums/video reviews for the past two days but I can't make up my mind between the two.

Summer's coming and my current case is a furnace. Looking to upgrade, I've come down between two apparently excellent ones, the Corsair 800D and the CoolerMaster HAF X and I'd like to know your personal recommendation and/or if there is anything better for the price point (~$250). I'm well aware that the 800D doesn't have as good airflow as the HAF X does, however I was wondering if installing the 4 120mm fans on the top of the case would level the playing field between the two. I may upgrade to water cooling in the future and the 800D looks to be the better go-to, however that upgrade may not come as fast as I'd like it to.

Are there any other pro's/con's I should be aware of and are there better cases with better cooling for the price point?

HAF-X if you're going to be aircooling for a significant amount of time, it does watercooling fine.

The 800D on the other hand doesn't excel at both.

Personally I prefer the 800D, looks alot nicer and looks like better build quality. It also has brilliant cable management and, as you said, great for water cooling. The HAF X is a very good case though.

At the end of the day it just comes down to personal preference.

the 800D won't be a good aircooler as opposed to the haf x being pretty good at both.

however... i hate the look of all the haf cases (i have one and i just don't like the look of it).. i would rather choose the sleek and smooth edges of the 800d if i had a choice

I am stuck with the same dilemma. I thought I was decided on the Haf X, I personally like the looks, and now am starting to lean towards the 800d for overall quality. Not that the Haf is a low quality case by any means, it just seems the 800 has a few more pluses to it. I might just stick with what I have for now and see if maybe a new HAF case comes down the pike!

My friend has HAF X and the case is simply huge it fits CM V10 in it like nothing plus 5970.
I'm on the other hand saving up for a 800D plus full water loop.

800D is a great case, as well as the Half X, I have both. The 800d is much larger then the Half X. The 800 D is a better choice for more extensive water cooling. build quality of the 800D is leaps and bounds above the Half X. In all truth I am not totaly happy happy with either of them, I want the Case Labs TH10.

If you're looking for air cooling why not the FT02? Size wise it's not as large as the 800D but I have no issues putting things in.

As everyone has said, if you don't plan on doing serious watercooling (as in several large rad's) then it makes more sense to go with the HAF X right now. I had the HAF X for several months before switching to a torture rack and it did a fantastic job of cooling everything. But in the end it's really your personal preference. Let me know if you have any specific questions about the haf x

In terms of personal preference I'm still leaning towards the 800D for build quality and style rather than the too industrial look of the HAF X.

If I happened to buy the 800D, for the three 120MM fans on the top and the one 120MM on the bottom what would you all recommend? Does this significantly improve the air cooling going from the stock fans?

I really appreciate all the feedback thus far!

EDIT: Now pushing towards the HAF X for raw air cooling, I've come across the newer SilverStone Raven RV03. Any thoughts?
