Went from an i5 2500k to an i7 2600k, anything different with OC'ing?

So apparently my i5 2500k chip has been degrading, and I said forget it, and bought an i7 2600k lol . I'm using the same mobo and everything in my sig rig. Is there anything different I need to know about overclocking an i7 2600k? What voltages should I stay around? On my 2500k after it was degrading it was at 4.8ghz 1.37 vcore 24/7 66 C max under load.

Should I have HT on, etc.? I see a lot of people decreasing there blck to around 97 or 96 and hitting high multipliers, I understand this logic, but does it matter more for i7's?

Also, prime 95 should still be a good stability tester correct?

Thanks OCN!

How do you no if it was degrading? Did you add any new hardware to your rig

nothing different... it's just that with HT it will usually take more volts for a higher clock... and yes.. decreasing blck will get you higher multis and higher overall clocks when going above 4.8ghz

Ex. the current 2600k i am using is 100% 24/7 stable at (100.1x50 ) for 5.03ghz while it is not stable at (104x46) or something like that i forget... at a similar clock speed

How exactly did you know the chip was degrading rather than simply settling down? Many chips require more voltage after awhile before becoming stabilized, sometimes around 0.03v at lower vcores and 0.05v higher up.

I'm not sure that it was degrading. I was talking to people on the Chimp Challenge chat room and posted on the OCN forums also, they believed it was chip degradation. I've had the chip for a little over 2 months and was able to hit the same frequencies at lower vcores. I never even pushed the chip past intel's threshold. The farthest I pushed it was to 5.0ghz at 1.43 vcore, hit about 72 C, I believe for only an hour to join the 5ghz+ stability club.

A gtx 580 and a sound card was added to the system. I ordered a seasonic x850 and should have it installed within the next week. My power supply is a few years old, might be on its way out.

sometimes your motherboard requires more volts when you add more devices(Mem and Pci cards ect) i no once i had my old q6600 at 3.4ghz i added more mem and it is just wouldnt boot at all. did you try giving it a few more volts and seeing it if was stabile.

I would assume it would fall and act randomly under load. bying a new proc would be my last resort. if it is the cpu i would send it intel and get a new one from them after there tests

I'm confused now..
You first said it was degrading, now you're saying it needed lower vcore for the same mhz O_O

Sorry, must have been a bit delirious when I wrote that. To clarify, I need higher vcore in order to reach the same frequencies now, then I had needed a month or two ago.

It seems that periodically I have to pump in a little bit more vcore in order to continue to remain stable unfortunately. Every week or so.
