Samsung I9000 Galaxy S vs. LG Optimus 2x P990

So I am faced with a decision: get a unlocked LG Optimus 2x P990 for $569 or get an unlocked Samsung I9000 Galaxy S 8GB for $439.

So I know the Optimus has a dual core and a better camera but what I want to know is can I get emulators and games and stuff on it? Another question is can the optimus play MKV files?

My friend has a Samsung Galaxy S and I was considering buying one but then I saw the Optimus with its 8mp camera, 1080p video capability and dual core tegra CPU. Is it worth buying an Optimus or Galaxy S 1 now or should I wait and see if the Galaxy S 2 comes on sale.

BTW both phones I am looking at are unlocked, if I get a Galaxy S 2 I would have to get it on sale from a place like Newegg.ca or NCIX. I am not a fan of spending 3 times the cost of a phone in a 3 year contract.

If you are buying unlocked, I'd see if the G2x will work on your carriers 3G bands. If it does, I'd buy the G2x simply because the big hit against the Optimus 2X is its software, and the G2x is the same thing with Stock Android. If not, I'd probably still go Optimus 2X.

Whats the differances between the G2x and the 2x?

I was also considering waiting to see what phones are on sale on NCIX next week, if a Galaxy S 2 is on sale I will probably get that. But I think its a fat chance it will go on sale soon seeing as it just came out.

Software and radio bands are the only difference. Like I said, make sure the G2x would work on your carrier, if not, no big deal. If it will, it's a slightly better choice IMHO.

Well, i just read on XDA that in Korea (i think) they just recieved an update for their 2X which gives the ability to play .MKV files. I hope it gets to europe and USA soon. About emulators, yes, you can install emulators on it for ps1 games and snes and all.
I have the 2X and i have to say, its FAST and i start to love it more and more every day biggrin.gif.
There are also alot of devs working on customs roms for the phone so there is alot of support for it on XDA. atm some devs are working on CM7 builds, its not perfect yet though.
And about all the issues you might have read about the phone (getting warm, rebooting, and so on), i had none of them, maybe i'm lucky or i'm just using it right biggrin.gif.

I say wait for the Samsung i9100 Galaxy S II, also a core 2 duo phone and performs better than the LG Optimus 2X. It also has the newest droid OS installed on it with the option to upgrade it for free.

Speaking of upgrades, that's the main beef I have with LG. Customer service is close to nil and they literally forget to support phones. You have to do a lot of the upgrading on your own through unofficial sites and such. Samsung on the other hand has already updated their Galaxy S twice since it's release (Gingerbread has been available for the phone for awhile now).
