Well, I ordered one. In a few days, I'll let you know how it sounds compared to ALC892.

Ordered one as well. Reviews mostly say despite it not being as good as other high end sound cards, it beats the **** out of onboard sound, even the new onboard sound.

Ok. Got it installed. Before I installed it, I listened to The Prodigy-Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix), Rush-Spirit of Radio, and a rendition of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3, all in FLAC. I used a pair of Creative EP 650 earbuds. I listened to all the same songs after the installation and I have to say that I see a pleasant improvement. Much stronger high and low frequencies and what I can only describe as a "cleaner" sound. The headphone amp is dangerously effective. After destroying my eardrums, I opted for the medium gain setting. Before yanking my headphones out in pain though, I did notice that clarity was maintained magnificently well at high volume/gain. Worth the money? I certainly think so. I can't wait to try it out on an EAX capable game.

Note though, during installation, I kept getting a message that I needed to plug in my card even though it was already plugged in. After some searching, I found the solution was to disable UAC for the installation process. After that, it installed perfectly. Weird, but no biggie.

Set the DG headphone amp towards your headphones, dont just use the setting because its there if your headphones or earphones dont need a amp to be driven.

Yeah, I feel I prefer the volume range and sound where I set it. One of the reasons I didn't set it high was the fear that my poor little buds would bite the dust.

Man, I can't believe I ever thought that onboard was "good enough". I haven't stopped listening to music yet.

Is it that big of a difference?

Yes. More than I would have believed. I'm a car audiophile and perhaps have a pickier ear than the average user, but it's enough for me to ensure I always have one in the future.
