Sorry for bumping a REALLY OLD thread! But I was just wondering if a solution to the above problem was ever found? I'm suffering the exact same problem were I can't access my back-up DVD's anymore and whenever I try to I get the Windows explorer crash issue.

I'm also on Windows Vista 32bit. Anyways, Any and all help is appreciated!

Sorry for the late reply and also sorry for sounding like a complete n00b here but, Is the info you require from the event viewer from the Cdrom area? If so it says this...

The device, \\Device\\CdRom0, has a bad block.

And, what is "Hijack This"? I'm unaware of this software or app?

EDIT: I found Hijack This and Installing now.

EDIT 2: Here's the Hijack This Output...

turn off thumbnail mode, try viewing them as list. I had this similar problem with Klight Codec pack, all I did was was go in to Codec Tweak Tool, Thumbnails, deselect everything, no problems since

Thanks for your reply. I tried what you suggested but yet the problem persists.

As usual, when I insert one of my data dvd back ups (in this case a Steam Games DVD-R Back Up Disk) the dvd drive light flashes for a while and then stops flashing... The disk never spins like other disks do and I don't hear the obvious loud humming noise.

When I open "My Computer" from the start menu and Left-Click on the DVD Drive icon, Windows Explorer stops responding and has to be restarted. The Left-Click Menu never appears.

It seems that this only happens with DVD-R's that I have around 4gigs of data on. Those I have with only about 1 or 2gigs of data seem to work fine.

I hope that extra bit of info helps you or anyone else to help me with this quite annoying problem.

Thanks in advance!!!
