"GTX 580" vs "Tri SLI GTX 285" - Page 2

Thank you all for your great and helpful answers.

What i want to say after reading all the comments, it seems that i cant run most of the games as 3d surround at MAX/Very High. In the same time i cant upgrade my current 285 to either 480, 580 or 560.

So i think my best option now is to stay with my 2 sli gtx 285 and play the games on my new 120hz monitor as 3d, and later on i should upgrade from 285 - 5xx. I think this is the better option as most of you advice.

Bang/buck, two 2Gb 6950. What your asking though, two 580's is what you'll need. 285's would choke on VRAM before they can really be pushed, a better choice would be the GTX 275 1.7Gb...but those are still old and underpowered compared to the 5XX series.

Yes i understand now that my 2 gtx 285 are not good for my setup as surround, but i think it can handle my new 120hz as 3d @ MAX, without surround. Dont you think..

They should, but depending on the game, MAX might be too much. Most games will run fine though.

yea 2 285s should be ok for most games in 3D as long as u don't crank all the settings to max.
