It's quite far away from your lava. If I need to make any more expansions, i'll be building toward the lighthouse Tw34k made.

Were getting some lag on the server, i checked that it wasn't just me with another guy. Still testing plugins?
The backup plugin thing seems to make the server lag incredibly hard when it begins a backup. Everything I do while the server makes a backup is delayed by about 5-10 seconds.

I will keep an eye on it and see if its the same with me.

It will lag as long as we have a larg group of players on modifiing the world... aka, building houses... mining... etc... If all of us stopped building for one cycle of the backup plugin there would be little lag because there were no blocks modified. The program goes through are whole world and looks for just blocks that were add or deleted then records that change. If there was a lot of work done during that cycle the lag will be greater, and it does not help that me and Mrx00 are building a large minecart tour around the area. So as building slows and we all get settled in and start on more technical and longer lasting jobs we should see a decreas in lag during the backups. And i am sure Beers is lookig ito it anyway.

Sorry for that. I plan on doing some testing tonight and implementing a backup system that doesn't rely on Java. That should free up some CPU cycles for the Minecraft thread/not rely on Java for file operations (which apparently is kind of horrendous). Hopefully will alleviate lag around that timeframe.

I think we might need to look at a reboot of the server nightly. Not sure if it is a memory leak that is causing the slow down but seems to get slower the longer the up time is.

(iTeet here)

I think one of the bigger problems is the constant back-up'ing. It did the exact same thing on another server I was on a while ago, and I honestly never saw the reason to backing up so frequently... Even dropping it down to half an hour or an hour would probably help immensely since you would only experience that lag 1/4 or 1/2 as much.

If you ever need to rely on a back-up anyway, that 1 hour of work wouldn't be a big deal vs whatever damage was done to require a back-up IMO. (I do think there should be constant back-ups though, just not so often)

^ A reboot might help a good bit as well.

How often did you reboot your server?

Few more shots of my first project which is pretty much done now and time to move on and build something else.

Installed the flashing light columns today and finished up the perimeter farm.
