If the bulldozer is a good money for power buy, im getting one, amd have always had great prices compared to Intel IMO. but i, jsut a die hard fan of AMD, i believe they run well with ATI lot better, but if u have the money. NvIdia rig with an extreme Intel CPU is probably going to do better in benchmarking and higher end video rendering. just my opinion

That's probably what I'm going to go with, Intel - Nvidia. I had thoughts of the Crosshair IV and 1100T, and HD6870 Crossfire's. Followed by an Intel 250GB SSD.

Take note I'm not a power user, nor am I an overclocking enthusiast. I just want a clean built, efficient but powerful and future ready computer. I'm also very picky when it comes to hardware, seeing as how I often let the look of things influence my decisions more than the actual features and value.

i know exactly how u feel. im about to get the crosshair V and either a bulldozer or X6 1090T not sure yet on the CPU.. im a gamer mostly, i overclock, but in moderation. if your looking for a solid build for future proofing, anything over an X3 CPu with a 4 series Nvidia or 5 series ATi and your golden. even if a new game comes out, u can always lower the setting until your ready to use the games full potential.

Fixed that for you.

OP: Between now and next summer? We got Sandy Bridge-E coming out this summer/fall, Bulldozer coming out next month-ish, Ivy Bridge 22nm shrink of Sandy Bridge coming out early next year, and maybe even Enhanced Bulldozer by next summer.
Why upgrade?

Ivy Bridge isn't Sandy Bridge at all. It uses the new 3D transistors technology. It's rumored to use the same socket but it is not the same.

When would be the best time to build a computer between now to the end of 2012?
wait till summer, all bugs and kinks will be worked out. and gives u time to save enough to make a monster machine. plus there will be many more Mobos and ram etc and the enw ATI 7 series will be out, you can look at some benchmarks for these to really sway your opinion, just my OP of course
