Is this a good deal for this camera? I've been wanting a DSLR for a long time, and I've heard this is an ok camera. Any recommendations?

It's an alright DSLR, but I would go with Canon or Nikon. They have more of the market, and you will likely be able to get cheaper lenses (more variety also).

I don't want to completely drive you away from Pentax, but check out the Canon T2i through the Canon Loyalty Program, or the Nikon D3000/3100.

I bought my parents the k-x awhile ago and myself the Canon XSI. Although the K-x is a great camera, the AA batteries are a pain! I also prefer to use my XSI, I just find it more comfortable and intuitive.

Cheers,

this is a pretty good camera, theres missing AF points in the viewfinder so it might be a bit annoying if you are not use to teh camera. the 14mp sensor is the same as the nikon/sony sensor which is little less noisey then old canon rebel xt/xti/xsi sensor.

pentax cameras have the same mount since m42 days, so technically speaking there are far more NATIVELY compatible lenses for pentax then there are for canon and even low end nikon.

Cheers,
i personally would prefer to have the choice to use AA battery in my camera, since i always need to carry AA for my flash.
