Why do you have to buy a sound card for 5.1?

Ok even on XP, VIA claims my onboard supports EAX, I used there drivers, no game will use EAX though, only Miles Fast 2d none of them that I want to play like COD2 which i wanted to try in surround sound also have dolby surround sound or can direct access directsound or directsound3d, leaving me stuck with miles 2d crap which is total garbage its stero audio and worthless for a 5.1 system. My Audigy 2 is shot even in XP my other option is a Live 5.1 and the VIA onboard sounds alot better than this old Live. Whats the deal is this some sort of scam from the XP days to force you to use creative to get surround sound or your stuck with craptastic Stero sound? Anyway to force miles 2d to become miles 3d at all? Or do I simply have to waste money on a sound card, and I say waste because to me sound cards arnt needed for gaming anymore, onboard sounds just fine, and in newer games that use OpenAl this isnt an issue, BFBC2 works fine in surround sound.

So why did these older game compaines scam everyone with crappy support DirectSound3d should be an option in every single one of them but its not. IS there a way to force Miles to do surround sound?

Try a barrel roll.

The output for the signal has to be 5.1, are your codecs all there?

yes 5.1 works on VLC, works in BFBC2, works in CSS, just not in COD2, COD1, MOHAA, MOHPA (Dolby does but it causes serious lag).

According to VIA the 1825S chipset supports EAX but I cant enable it and I added the latest drivers from VIA

anyone got any ideas? Anyway to force EAX on and disable miles from even working or a hack to convert Miles 2d to miles 3d? I don't feel like I should have to buy a sound blaster to play games in surround sound that sounds stupid in every sense of the word to be totally honest. My hardware supports 5.1, I use 5.1 to watch movies and play newer games or games that recived a patch or 2 for Vista to allow it to drop EAX and use something else.
