overclocking my i7 ?

Thread Starter
hi fellas....

my sig rig has been on stock now since I have built it, unfortunately, I couldn't get my hands on an aftermarket cooler for the CPU, so as you see it's now on its stock speed....

but I really want overlcock it, at least I want to have some mild overclocing, so I wonder how far I can overclock this processor in the stock HFS ? I don't mind disabling turbo boost, but I want to have HT on sure, so please tell me.

I know I can reach good results with an aftermarket cooler, but I want to try something for now, so tell me please where can I start from with overclocking the i7 860 ?

I am familiar with overclocking LGA775 systems, but I haven't tried overclocking any LGA 1156 yet.

so please bear with me...

so now I want to know:

- what's the sage limit overclock for my i7 on the stock cooler ?

- where to start messing up with in BIOS to overclock ?

EDIT: I prefer to stay with the stock voltage as much as possible, also the motherboard has been flashed to the latest BIOS so far, which is 1.9 .

please reply.

many thanks.

I would be afraid to even run stock speeds with the stock cooler. It's just that terrible. If you start doing anything CPU intensive it will become very toasty.

I don't think the stock HSF is that terrible to even let'em cool the CPU on the stock speed !!

- I don't want to do anything CPU intensive as you said, I only want to have some mild stable overclock with HT on and turboboost off for 24/7.

so please help me .

I have tried some attempts overclocking it with no success, I have tried 143x21 on stock volt, but I coudn't get the OS stable, besides some BSODs, also I have tried to raise the VPU volt a bit like 0.6 ~ 0.12, & even 0.18 but still not working, the temp didn't exceed 59c, also I disabled the EIST, but left the halt on for protection, but still not working, I didn't mess with anything else farther than this, so what can I do to get at least 3.2 GHz with HT on and turbo off stable ?

please help me.

Pick this up:

You can pick it up new for $20.95

You're not gonna get very far with the stock heat sink as has been mentioned already.

I personally wouldn't run the stock cooler, not even at stock speeds.
