Replace a tn panel with an ips panel?

Thread Starter
Hey guys

Ive been looking for an answer to this question but can't seem to find it. Okay so i have an tn panel in a 23 inch monitor. I would like to replace this tn panel with a 23 inch ips panel. Would this work? Also if no what would i need to make this monitor compatible with an IPS panel? Thx

I'm not sure if it is possible to replace the panel itself because monitors are not supposed to have interchangeable panels. The best you can do is buy a new monitor with an IPS panel, but they are much more expensive than TN monitors.

If you do want to upgrade your monitor, I suggest the Dell U2410. It is really good and one of the few 16:10 monitors still out there today.

You need to buy an IPS monitor if you want one. What you want to do won't work.

Ok so back to the question is it possible to replace the tn display with a similiar va or ips? Like say i bought a monitor controller board and transplanted it into the display
post #7 of 9
Replacing the controller board would mess up the whole thing, it would not work, and even if it did, the image quality would still be TN.

There ARE IPS monitors with less agressive AG coating, or even a glossy surface. Check out the 27" apple cinema display. It's expensive, but it's a great example of a glossy IPS monitor.

I have IPS monitor, all IPS panel have heavy ag coating, and all ips panel si made by LG.

Firstly the AG coating differs between panels, some have lots, some a little and some none (glossy IPS, like Apple's displays).

Secondly the extent to which it affects people differs. Personally, i don't get any eye strain on my U2311h with a fairly aggressive AG coating, and text seems perfectly crisp and readable to me.

Lastly, not all IPS panels are made by LG... Although lots of the 23" models are.

And to the OP: just buy an IPS monitor. What you want to do most likely won't work, will end up expensive in the long run, and is a waste of your time. If you're replacing the panel and controller boards with those from an IPS, that's pretty much what makes the IPS screens good, so you might as well buy the whole monitor! What is worth keeping from your TN monitor..?

not 100% of panel is "theoretically" made by LG, but the major part is it.
all desktop 16:9 and cheap 16:10 IPS panel is 100% LG.
Is not made by Lg some notebook IPS panel or Apple, this is only special case.

The Lg IPS Panels can have different coatings but always too aggressive, for example u2710 and u2410 have 2 different coating, this last have a less aggressive but it's same excessive.
Too grainy, crystalized, and tick.

The ligher IPS panel coating by LG that i ever seen is in HP Zr24W and one model fujitsu, but this is not like TN or VA.
