Thermal Paste Question - Page 2

Best temps i get is by tinting the cpu and tinting the base of your cooler, spred it on and wipe them off so all you see is a discoloration-than i put just a very small rice grain dab in the middle of my cpu-works best for me.

The best temps I have ever gotten was by pre-spreading with a plastic card.

The fact of the matter is that the amount you use can have a whole range of effects from one Processor to the next. Any of the solutions mentioned previously will work, just go for it and don't be concerned because it isn't that big of a deal.

Um... What is this not a big deal you speak of?

It really is a big deal coz it will make or break the whole cooling solution. Unless, Im misinterpreting what you mean...
I think what he means is that all of the methods listed (pea, rice, credit card, plastic bag, etc.) all work pretty well and arguably the same. Regardless of which one used you may have to remount the CPU block if you're temps aren't right.

Cool, yeah I'm using the Artic Silver 5, I'm gonna do the rice size like the AS5 page said for mine. Durn though it takes 200 hours to break in lol.

Well, will post after I'm done with it, wish me luck lol

Btw, the stock one was loud as heck and the temps set at 47C. Hope this works better.

okay got it on finally. I can not in any way promote this thermaltake Spin Q... when I torqued it down with the fastener, it was rotating on the top. Completely not secure. had to take a metal pie pan and cut a piece off and put on top of the block between the block and the fastener. It fit tight then. Though had to take it off and clean and reapply thermal stuff about 3 times... PITA.

About to run an AMD overdrive stress test for about an hour and watch the temps.

At first glance it is running about 42 with the case closed. Didn't think about that earlier but the side was off for the 47 temp from the above post. With side off we are looking about a 39C temp. I need to add in a top and side fan on the case anyway.

yeah I figured that one out lol. Well the extra fans should help take the hot air that it's blowing all over everything and suck it out lol
