Best way to get my STX to my 5.1 setup?

What would be a good receiver?

I assume S/PDIF from STX to receiver and plug my 5.1's into the receiver?

Which speakers do you have? How much do you have to spend?

Receivers sell for anywhere between $150 and $15,000+.

I understand clearly that you want to pass your sound to your receiver through the SPDIF/digital out on your STX, but why would you bypass the OpAmps on the card in analog mode to simply use it for digital passthrough? That is a waste of the card's capabilities.

It is unfortunate that you do not have the Essence ST. That card can use the H6 expansion board and you can pass 5.1 analog to your receiver..

I have the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's.

Ya it is too bad I don't have the ST, so what would be the best way with what I have? As far as budget goes, $500 or less.

Ya duh, that would be a waste, so how can I pass analog to my speakers?

Those are active, you would be better off selling your STX and getting a soundcard with analog 5.1 output instead. The alternative would be to get a Receiver and upgrade to some passive speakers.

Active speakers can be used with a Receiver if it has 5.1 analog pre-outs but it would be overkill (and a waste) for a PC speaker set.

I would also get a receiver and passive speakers

I personally like Onkyo and Yamaha for under 500. Speakers are up to what you think sounds best.

After some more reading I think the ST with the H6 and some RCA splitters would be my best bet, thanks.

I would like to keep the speakers I have for now.

Be sure to shop around for the H6 expansion module.

I found it from $30 to $60 depending on the website and time to receive the product.

5.1 analog on the Essence ST was absolutely phenomenal.

Plus you can change the OpAmps on the card and the H6 expansion module.

This setup would be deadly, as the British say........

Does the ST and the STX have the same DAC chip? What's the difference between these cards?
I'm pretty sure they're the same, only difference is the pci-express x1 and and regular pci.
