If that's not the case than this is a case of severe false advertising, even from Apple that's a little ridiculous.
Apple has typically referred to a product's generation with "G". Case in point, all the iPods.

The only time that has changed is with the iPhone 4.

Iphone, iphone 2, iphone 3g (on 3g networks), iphone 3gs (Still on 3g networks), iphone 4 (still on 3g, thus not the iphone 4g) ...

The ipods have used "g"s but not the phones. not sure why they would switch to an incorrect method after using a correct one.

The bigger screen is welcome if the form factor didn't change. I felt the 3.5" screen on my ipod touch was a little restrictive when surfing the web. Plus, now that I'm used to my Captivate's screen it would be hard to go back to something that small.

Perhaps in public marketing, but internally they're still refferred to as Generation, hence the G. I think people are looking too much into the "G" and not taking this information seriously because of their lack of understanding.

I understand, I'm just saying that for people who arn't as tech savvy (IE, many Mac users) it can lead to confusion.
