ASUS Xonar DG any good?

Thread Starter
I am no audiophile, and do not use a 500€ headset, so I wouldn't like to spend alot of money on the soundcard. I am probably going to buy Asus Xonar DG. Any opinions? I have a true 5.1 headset (Roccat Kave)

Is it any good?
Is the sound quality better than onboard? Thanks in advance!

Is the Xonar DX-XD worth twice the price? (70€)
I am coming form onboard, which I'm happy with, its just that I hear this bussing sound from my center speaker, because my mobos soundcard is broken, I do not need extremely good sound quality, so is the DX worth double the price?

Yeah. It's pretty much one of the only sound cards I'd ever consider because of the low asking price. Before I said you'd need very high-end equipment to be able to hear the difference between onboard and dedicated, but even with some $80 Klipsch Image S4s you can see the difference in sound quality. I will advise you, though, don't spend too much on a sound card. After you get to a certain point, you get a lot of diminishing returns. While I found a decent difference between onboard and the Xonar DG, I was rather hard pressed to find a difference between it and the Xonar DX and other more expensive sound cards.

TL;DR: get the Xonar DG. It's the best sound card for the money.

Its pretty good, I prefer my DX, a word of advise, 5.1 headsets are a gimmick, for better sound quality you can grab a $50-$60 pair of HD 428 S cans, they had them for $50 at best buy recently.

I know but these ones have 6 physical speakers, and are great, and like I said I am no audiophile, I listen to some music, almost never watch movies, just play competitive like CoD 4

agreed cause the DX`s sample rate is 192kbs even for multi channels while the DG has 96kbs even for Stereo
the only thing about the DG is that it has a built-in headphone AMP but since the DG is old so the AMP is not that good
and there is a very very important point the DG is PCI while the DX is PCIe
you do not need a card that might be thrown a way because you are out of slots in case you have 2GPUs

so yes the DX worth it so if your budget is ok do not hesitate and go for the DX

EDIT: and one more thing: the DG is only 5.1 while the DX is 7.1 , no body knows you might end up using a 7.1 system someday

Even if he has three dual-slot GPUs in his AsRock X58 Extreme, there would still be room for a PCI card. The DG will be more than sufficient for his current setup, and even for most high-end setups.

I imee someone was gonna hate on me buying it, but the truth is I wouldn't even buy a soundcard if my onboard wasn't dying.
