Mouse pad for a Razer Imperator

I bought a gaming mouse recently, do i really need a gamign surface or woudl a cheap mat suffice?

the imperator doesn't work that well on cloth surfaces, i recommend a scarab since it has a very nice glide with most razer laser mice but it's really pricey... http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826999087&Tpk=scarab
for a cheaper mat, i recommend the sphex http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826999063&Tpk=sphex

i am very happy with the Puretrak Talent and my imperator.
never heard of any problems with cloth pads.

I didn't like my Imperator with my Talent. Pressing directly downward on the mouse caused the cursor to move diagonally and made aiming more difficult, which is why hard pads are recommended for the Philips Twin-Eye.
