I wasn't expecting you to get it done in that time frame. Based on your response you had no intention of doing so. That's what prompted me to say that. I'm not trying to be judgmental here, at all really. You simply seem to be disregarding the advice that's given to you. If I misinterpreted your reply then I do apologize.

That post was actually aimed at the user Scorpii.

@kevingreenbmx
Thanks. A post from which i can sense good intentions. Yes, i did get excited a bit and never expected this issue would arise. As for OCing again..never. I swear i would never overclock a graphics card unless i had 20-30 more.
no problem.

If you have cheap thermal paste available go ahead and use that. it is better than what is between that GPU and cooler now. the difference between cheap and nice thermal paste is 5c max, so don't worry about that.

Now it's at 66% because i need no more because it's not overclocked. And temps will currently not rise to the 90s ever nor 85.

I also opened the GPU after i had a few of those lock ups

EDIT:The thermal pad depicted in that picture is OK on the card, the other type that is white is not though.
well, your problem is still a combination of insufficient cooling and high voltage, causing the card and VRMs to overheat I think.

I get to around 80C on stock volts with the stock cooler, so I can imagine that at at 1.2v it could very easily overheat and cause damage, especially if it kept shutting down/locking up or throttling, but you kept running it anyway

I think you pretty much killed it with that OC.

Change the locked fan speed to make it kick in at 100% if the GPU goes above 95C if you absolutely have to have it locked the rest of the time.

I'd suggest a lower number but I'm guessing you wouldn't set it because you're only running stock. For reference, my air cooled card is spinning at 100% folding 24/7 and it's sitting at 55C right now.

The reason I have mine running so cool when I can get away with a much quieter fan for higher temps is high voltage and a hot PC component don't mix.
If you ever do overclock again just go easy on the voltage and make sure the temps are in check and you should be okay.

Edit: the reason for 100% after 95C is it should hopefully prevent overheating if your card saturates the heatsink and the fan at 66% just can't keep up. Without this failsafe it could just keep climbing so I personally don't ever lock my fanspeed down.

another thing to keep in mind is that the lower your temps are, the more voltage you can safely use.

the max safe voltage on a chip that has a cooler that can handle 500-600w of heat dissipation is going to be much higher than on a chip with a 300w cooler because of the relationship between temperature and resistivity.

Most everyone else has given good advice, and I only have one thing to add: Don't get too greedy.
