Audio Format Mix up

I know this is not the forums strong point but I wasn't sure who else would be able to solve this. I recently extracted all Portal 2 sound files. Most are wave files as you would expect. Unlike the rest of the sound files, the voice (vo) files have the .wav and according to Windows are in the wave format, however according to a media info application from (K-Lite Codec Pack) the files are in fact mpeg format. The bitrate and file size also indicate that the files are lossy (mp3s).

What I want is to be able to use these files in audio production programs, however they all have a problem with it because its not actually a real wav file. I can't convert it because all converters bug when they realise its a false wave file. Is there any way to get rid of the wave id? I could probably just rerecord it through a soundcard but I was wondering is there a faster/easier/quality retaining way?

Have you tried Audacity or Goldwave they might decompress it. If your sure it's its an mpeg then try renaming to a .mp3 or something.

Tried renaming, no luck. Tried opening it up in Audacity and it exported it as a proper wave file no problem. I love you.
