Help with Cooler Ideas

Thread Starter
Im trying to get a good clock at 4.0Ghz. I put the Core volts to 1.5 and its stable how ever the V8 cant handle keeping temps down at that voltage. I thinking of making the rear fan intaking and reverse the fan in the V8 to pull air, then the fan in the top back to exhaust. Do you think this will decrease temps. Im using Ic7 diamond paste and im using the Lexa S case with different fans.

well i made my v8 work well by putting a 92mm fan on the back (the fins on the v8 are very dense so push/pull really helps) you may also consider making a shroud for it

edit: the shroud i made just wrapped along the edges from the 92mm on the back to the 120mm in the middle so air was forced through the fins... i found that once i could force the air through the fins on my v8 it actually performed quite well, but just out of box its a rather poor cooler compared to current offerings

Get a 183CFM fan, loud as a airplane but it's like a bloody jet!

http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/...pid-13122.html

It's a high amperage fan though, now that should jet through those fins xD

If you have 2 top fans, make the front top intake, block off the rear top, and keep the rear fan as exhaust. That will give the CPU it's own supply of fresh air, and it should help with mobo temps as well. My temps dropped 3-4*C across the board when I switched to this setup.

go for watercooling?
1.5v is pretty high ammount of volts for the chip btw.

you could buy 2 High RPM thick beast fans.. eg i got a Scyth 3k rpm 133cfm fan in my 2nd rig.
only problem.. its 56db! haha, droped temps by 5 - 10 degrees...
droped 460s temps down 20 degrees when i had it in the front of my case.. x)

*sigh* that is also an option but them it will be very loud lol i was trying to recommend ways of improving the performance of the cooler while still keep it quiet.... i zip tied a fan from the stock cooler onto the back of the v8 right on the last row of fins to force the fan to pull air through the most dense part of the fins

Silver Arrow or NH-D14 or Achon are the top 3 air cooler.

lol, I gave up my V8 months ago, It barely got warm to the touch and kept going 60C+ at 4.0GHz, now I'm on W/C, and an incorrectly lapped CPU, I'm now hitting 64C max load...

I can't wait for my 1055T to die.......

Pull that stock fan off,its blocking flow and cant shift more air than the 120mm,probably stalling the air flow with its mass.

Err....what are the temps? before everyone starts giving advice (myself included),we need the temps.....

You can always try to improve case air flow, meaning perhaps replace and increase the cfm for the rear exhaust, than use the rear top fan for exhaust, the forward mount top fan opening for more intake which should deliver fresh air in front of the cooler and leaving the front case fan as is.

As a general rule intake through the front/side and exhaust out the rear/rear top. When two top fans are an option the front mount usually for intake. Also may help to mount an internal 80-120mm fan to the back side of the optical bay area depending on how full that area is.

The stock NZXT exhaust fans usually lack in air flow. Try 2 x 65cfm fans for exhaust (Enermax Magna for rear) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835214001, side and front may be ok with stock and maybe a pair of Scythe Slip Stream 140mm 1200rpm for the top http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185157

Another option would be to switch out the cooler itself for a Scythe Mugen II which fits inside a NZXT M-59 case with no issues http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185142 which will work real well on a quad core as kept my 1090T under load in the mid 50's at 4.0GHz.
