Need some Help with ATI crossfire?

Thread Starter
hi there guys im new here and hope you could help me, I am currently using ATI Radeon HD 5830, and am considering adding a second GPU and would like to know if can i run crossfire between this and ATI sapphire HD 5830 or does the second GPU have to be Radeon HD 5830 the same as the first. I am confused about the difference between radeon and sapphire and the compatibility between the both. Hope someone can shed some light on this, and thanks for any replies.

ATI is the company that makes the chip itself, Radeon is just the name that is tacked on to all the graphics chips. Sapphire is just a company that put the cooler on

You can CF with any 58XX card, however the slowest one will determine the speeds... best bet is to go 2x5830s

Thanks guys 2 5830s it is, as the slowest determines the speed there would be not point in the extra money for sapphire as it runs fastest?

You can crossfire with any 5830, 5850, or 5870. Maybe even a 5970? (not sure about that last one). The only problem is it runs both cards at the slowest cards' speeds.

Yes the 5830 is best in your situation. You can go with any brand (Sapphire, XFX, MSI, etc.).
