Could I connect a 7.1 speaker set to an X-Fi XtremeGamer card?

I need to buy a new sound card, but I would like to know first if I could use 7.1 speakers on the Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer card, which I managed to find pretty cheap on eBay.

The reason I'm asking is because the card only seems to have 4 jacks, which are 3 for output and 1 for input.
And since I'm not sure if 7.1 speakers use 3 or 4 jacks, I needed to know...

Technically, I think there's an adapter that les you use 7.1, but yeah, 7.1 is 4 jacks while the xtrememusic has 3.

Do some research on that adapter.

While I'm at it, and if you don't mind answering this, the guy that is selling the X-Fi XtremeGamer, is also selling on the same sale a Creative Audigy 2 ZS. And from what I've seen, that one actually has the 4 needed output jacks for 7.1 speakers.

My question is, is that card good? I just need something that's at least on the same quality level as my Realtek onboard sound chipset. I'm only getting card because it is starting to give me contact problems on the jacks.

that white jack is a (Flexi jack) :

you will lose mic input if you will use optical output.
it will only pass stereo and 5.1 only for priorly pre-decoded Dolby Digital sound streams (DVD, divx with AC3 6ch sound). NO multi-channel audio for music or 5.1 sound in a games.
you need http://us.creative.com/products/prod...p?product=1780

about the 7.1 it seems that the card can output 7.1 channels within 3 ports only
see the attached picture (notice on the orange and black cable the extra ring in 7.1)

hope that helped

You can only do 7.1 with Creative's 7.1 systems. Those are the only ones AFAIK that have three 3.5mm jacks.

And as Crag posted it only does 5.1 through optical.

Well I'm not going to use optical, just the 3 analog jacks that I have on my Logitech X-530 speakers, at least for now.

But how good is the Audigy 2 ZS compared to my Realtek onboard chipset?

the audigy 2 ZS is noticeably better than your on-board (ALC 888)
but i do not know about the driver`s compatibility with WIN7 ????????

but since you wanted to buy the xtreme gamer i think you can for a few dollars more biggrin.gif and get the ASUS DX really great card

Yeah, I know I can get a better card for slightly more, but money is tight at the moment, and since I'm only buying the card not so much for the upgrade itself, but for the fact that the onboard jacks are starting to die I'm just gonna get the deal on eBay which is pretty cheap.

But thanks anyway. smile.gif
