If budget is not an issue, 2 GTX 580's. And this is coming from a 6970 owner too.

I think 6970s will be better, unless you're planning on buying the 3GB version of the 580?

If you're choosing between 1.5GB 580s and 2GB 6970s, go with 6970s.

If you're choosing between 3GB 580s and 2GB 6970s, go with 580s.

And please tell us your current/future monitor resolution and if money is tight or not a problem with your upgrade.

2 580's coming for experience!!! They run cool and quiet. No need for water, unless it's just something you want. I just put 2 580 1.5g cards in a friends pc last night for Nvidia Surround and they are great!!

Owner of the GTX 580 SLI's, will not disappoint... If you game on 3 monitors and want the highest resolutions with AA maxxed out and want to save money, maybe consider the 6970's. Anything else GTX 580's are the best dual GPU setup that you can get... period... aside from the price premium for the best...

I am all for the extra Vram. It's one of the main reasons I bought a 6970 2gb vs a gtx 570 at 1.25 gb, but still think the GTX 580's in sli having 3gb (total) will still destroy the 6970 even if they have 4gb(total).

IMO that cards aren't even comparable.

I see your avatar is a pic of Crysis. If that's a game your going to play and I imagine someone who would make that their avatar, you will be. 580's hands down. Nvidia walks all over Ati in Crysis 2.

DAO, and FFXIV, Ati's favor.

SLI doesn't double the VRAM, since SLI/Crossfired cards don't share it. The 1.5GB 580s don't do so well and will hit a wall in terms of lack of VRAM in future games, for a dual-card setup 2GB VRAM per card should be a minimum requirement if he wants his dual-card setup to last IMHO. And they are definitely comparable, especially in Crysis, where ATI does surprisingly better than Nvidia.

Those are 6950s Crossfired, getting great results (almost twice faster than a GTX 580), so 6970s would do even better, at least in Crysis anyways, while being quite a bit cheaper.

VRAm is only mirrored, so you still only have 1.5GB
