Question to 24/7 folders

Thread Starter
Don't you 24/7 folders ever feel uneasy that your CPU/GPU is always at 100% load?

And to know that your hardware (which you probably paid a good amount for) is degrading twice as fast?

I don't mind it really. I figure that all of my graphics cards are under warranty for many years to come, and I'll replace my CPU before it ever degrades.

Edit: Not to mention, I do far worse things to my hardware when benching

Chances are the items in question will be replaced long before they "die" anyway. And no, as long as you dont OC to hard your hardware should be fine as long as temps remain in check.

Not at all since I take the necessary precautions to make sure that ample cooling is in place. My Q6600 has been folding 24/7/365 for most of the last 4 years since I purchased it. It runs just as good now as it did when I first got it, and in fact can run 250MHz higher OC and still be F@H stable now than it did back them. With that in mind I'm not that worried about it. I don't go with crazy voltages to wring the last possible MHz out of my OC's, make sure there is proper cooling in place, and perform regular maintenance to the system to keep it in good working order. I figure the system might only last 8 or 9 years instead of say 10, but I can live with that. As long as you don't do anything really stupid your equipment should still be running long after you decide to replace it with something newer and/or faster.

No. With routine maintenance I have folded 2 8800GTS's 24/7 for about 3 years, and they are still solid.

my hardware isnt designed to be full load for 10% of the time...its designed to be able to handle 100% load full time so i see no worry at all. hell intel designed it to have a temp barrier at 100C and mine OC'd is 65C full load so i am not worried. Anyone who is...well shouldnt have their stuff

Not anymore. I have been folding 24/7 for over 2 years now. If something dies, it just means it's time to upgrade.
