Question to 24/7 folders - Page 3

Just because your card is under warranty doesn't mean the manufacturer will replace it as a consequence of excessive use. If your card fails and dies because you've been stressing the crap out of it 24/7 for years...I doubt any manufacturer would be willing to RMA that.

At least if I was in charge of a large corporation like XFX, EVGA, etc, I certainly would not categorize that under "normal use suitable for warranty"

I have a dedicated folding rig with older hardware, I generally save my better stuff for benching & just fold on it for things like the CC & foldathons, not full time. Don't want things to degrade before I can either wring every last boint out of it or kill it trying.

Yup. I'm new to folding but glad I started. For the longest time my #2 PC.. While pretty decent, was off and would not fetch me enough to be worth selling either. So, got it folding 24/7 now.

Also when I'm not using my sig rig, I feel the same way.

Never give it a second thought. I haven't had a CPU die on me yet after years of folding abuse. Also if my GPU's die from folding I get to use my EVGA lifetime warranty and get free upgrades

Umm, yes they will RMA. It's guaranteed against defects for the life of the oriinal owner, and this counts. You aren't VModding it or anything.

@OP, these cars will probably last 8 years folding, longer than any of us will keep them anyways. So it really doesn't matter, and you're helping to cure diseases.

EVGA has their own Folding@Home team.

I feel that way about my sig rig, but not about the three rigs I have in my office folding 24/7, those where donated to me by school

So if my GPUs ever die from overuse, what am I suppose to say to XFX?

"Well, uh, I've been stressing these cards on full 100% for the past ~2 years nonstop, and now the card's dead"
"Right...."
