Think I need a new CPU cooler. - Page 2

If you were to choose between the ones you mentioned go with the Frio, but the 212 is a pretty good cheap choice, just kind of looks too simple for my tastes (because looks are everything.)

Yeah thats why I was leaning toward the Frio, but now I think I just want to spend the money on a good cooler, like the Archon, NH-D14, or SA (even though they are dual, and I don't like them). I'm leaning towards the Archon but I can't find good reviews on it, is it quite like the NH-D14? Does it perform better? I honestly couldn't find any good reviews on it... must not be looking in the right place. This was all I really found... Doesn't look as promising here. The Frio is a couple degrees better...

Yeah I saw the HOP and Xbitlabs (didn't compare it to any other which was what I was looking for). Thanks for the Overclock.net ones though, will check them. Seems like it is quite according to the HOP review. I kind of wanted to see it against the NH-D14 and of the like, like in the vortex review I linked. But according to that the Frio was better at stock then the Archon at 4.0Ghz so I didn't know if they were legit or not.

The Archon comes with a TY-140 fan which, according to reviews and OCN user experience, are very good fans. They move plenty of air and are very quiet.
The Archon is one of the best single tower coolers out right now.

Here's a list of all the coolers compared that should help you.

http://frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm

In terms of performance (in order based on the 3 you're choosing from) I would go with:

1) Spire Thermax Eclipse II
2) Thermaltake Frio
3) CNPS9900 Max

The Hyper 212+ is definitely the winner in terms of being the best bang for the buck heat sink, but in terms of performance the first two are very very good!

The nice thing about frostytech is that the testing isolates and focuses on the CPU. Their synthetic benchmark eliminates all other factors that could contribute to either a heat sink performing better or not. Here's a link to their testing methodology:

Really gah... I thought the general concensus wasn't to trust frostytechs methods around here. Becuase they are too inconsistent with everyone else.

Like, according to their thermal tests the Frio is exactly equal to a NH-D14, and the Tuniq Tower 120 beats the NH-D14. I don't get it haha. I don't really trust them. Thats why I wanted to some opinions from here because I don't want to get burned again like I did with my CNPS 9000.

Well as far as I know the type of test they are using is a very scientific method considering that they eliminate all external factors in the capability of a heat sink. Plus testing a heat sink using 85w, 125w and 150w is totally fair considering that most heat sinks do have to be able to handle at least those conditions.

As an engineer these are the types of tests we run in a lab to try out products. In any case, any of the coolers on their top 10 list should be good and should be within 1~2*C from each other.

Whichever you choose from the 2 (frio or spire... even the noctua )on your list, they should kick butt!
