Disable all power saving options and crank up the cpu volts and keep bumping up the multiplier...what cpu cooler you got BTW

May I explain completely my situation?

I have an Athlon x3 445, UNLOCKED to a phenom x4 955.

Now, no matter what I do, I cant overclock. I havent touched the Volts because, i honestly dont know what i'm doing with that, But i've bumped the multi and FSB, it's stock at 3.1Ghz, it literally can't go to 3.2Ghz, or it's crazy unstable?

And, i dont think it's the RAM< because I downclocked the ram the under its stock 1333Mhz to make sure, and no imporvments. I dont have any extra RAM handy to exhange to test.

I have, this cooler, lol unsure of the name TBH! > http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/pr...RF-UCPUCF.html

What kind of load temps do you get with the chip unlocked at the 3.1ghz OC?

You could possibly have an unstable unlock CPU core thats limiting your overclocking ability, perhaps you might want to disable a core thats very unstable, sometimes unlocking a CPU core or cores doesn't always give you a stable core/cores_

Start bumping up CPU Voltages and see if that helps you stabilize it_ start in small steps and if you should exceed 1.5volts or even 1.45volts and you cant seem to get it stable, I suggest you disable a core, just because having to use 1.45-1.5volts just to get another 100mhz overclock is just a huge amount of voltage for 100mhz more, disabling a core might allow you to push it higher

I believe a 4.0ghz tri-core will definitely beat a 3.1ghz quad core & if your a gamer, a higher overclock is usually better than having an extra core(Considering majority of programs/games do not utilize all 4 cores or even 3 cores at times) A much faster tri-core will beat a slower quad core definitely, but its really how you use your PC and what you use it for that makes it beneficial to you whether you need that extra core or not.

Personally I rather have a 4.0ghz Tri-core over a 3.1ghz quad core_

Definitely go for the higher overclock vs. having more cores_ you'll have a better gaming experience with a higher overclock than you would with one more extra core_

Once you game...go for high OC....and 3 cores is good enough...lock that 4th and crank the 3 cores to 4ghz if you can.
